Here's the results of drawing class for the last two weeks.

So tonight was my final class for the Winter session at Watts Atelier. This Head/Figure/Quicksketch class has been totally sweet, especially the quicksketch and figure stuff, both of which I had practically never attempted prior to this class (save for one or two sketch sessions at the LA Farmers Market). All of these are 5-minute figure quicksketches. This was my very first time doing figure quicksketch, so the consistency of halfway decent drawings versus lousy drawings is all over the place. I've sectioned off the drawings that the teachers drew on my paper with red lines! Wow!

So, this is a big post, mostly because we did several drawings in class tonight. Instead of one long figure drawing for 2 hours, we did a series of 20-minute lay-ins, which is basically the first 20 minutes of what would normally be a longer drawings. Figure drawing is entirely new to me. I suppose this is about as good as my first head drawing was, though I don't have the next 9 weeks to get better. There's only 5 weeks left, and I think only 2 of them are figure drawings, while the other 3 are figure quicksketch. So, I should explain that this new class I'm in is called Head, Figure, Quicksketch. Basically what that means is that during these 10 weeks (there are 7 meetings left) the class will touch on all three types of drawings. The schedule is laid out as such: 2 weeks head quicksketch, 2 weeks head drawing, 3 weeks figure quicksketch, 3 weeks figure ( Read more... )
